My q45! [10 Apr 2013|01:09am]

64_palms
[ mood | apathetic ]

(I actually made one of these already when I was a stupid n00b.... I've grown up as a lolita a lot since then and changed the majority of my silly opinions, so I deleted the old entry and am now writing a new one. I hope that's okay!)

1. Please tell us your Hand Name (name that’s used ONLY in internet.) and hometown.
As in, my handle on the internet? I have a few, so let's just stick with 64-palms. I like to keep my online i.d.'s separate for the most part. I'm from western North Carolina.
2. About how long is your history as a Lolita?
I'm pretty sure my one-year anniversary passed last week, actually.
3. What first motivated you to do Lolita fashion?
I think it's really cute and elegant. To be honest, I'm still working on wearing it more often, though...
4. After knowing Lolita fashion, have you had any time-gap or resistance till you actually started to be Lolita?
Yes. I actually don't wear it a whole lot, much to my chagrin, but I'm working on it! I was on and off for a while, and I went on a long hiatus until just recently, when I've started getting seriously back into it.
5. Please define your Lolita style as much as possible. (eg. gothic Lolita, sweet Lolita, white Lolita…. Etc).
I like Classic and Gothic the most. What I actually wear is a mix between the two, but casual and toned-down.
6. About how many Lolita friends do you have?
In real life? One. I'm still not sure if she's as into it as I am, but it's a start!
7. What is the best thing about doing Lolita?
It gives me something to immerse myself in. I'm homeschooled and not highly social, so a lot of what I do is, well, hanging out at home, which can get kind of boring. Lolita keeps me on my toes, always looking at pictures online, building co-ords from my closet, making jewelry and accessories, learning to do hair and make-up, etc. I'm so into it that I don't have time to get bored! (I do have other interests though... I'm not a monomaniac!)
8. Conversely, what's the worst thing?
Actually wearing it out in public. It always seems like, "oh, this is going to be THE time when I go out in lolita with full confidence!" but then I always end up getting self-conscious and paranoid, and then I don't wear it again for a while.
9. Which Lolita Brands do you like?
I don't own any brand and probably won't for a while (heck, I can't work up the courage to get my 'rents to help me order from Bodyline D:) but I like Moite a lot.
10. What was the first Lolita item that you’ve owned?
Technically, a black petticoat I had for a dance recital. I know a lot of people don't like light-poof petties, but I do, and that thing is still serving me well.
11. What is the “must have!” Lolita item?
Like, what I think a vital lolita item is? Cute shoes!
12. Do you wear drawers?
Eh? I wear underwear, tights or socks if it's not too hot, and a petticoat.......
13. Do you have any favourite Japanese music?
I like Shugo Tokumaru a lot. He's like.... low-fi, Japanese acoustic hipster music?
14. Where do you particularly visit as Lolita?
This is actually something I've been thinking about a lot because I don't have one of those places. What kind of locations are "lolita outing" type places? I mostly wear it if I go to a play or something like that, or sometimes out to lunch if we're going somewhere nice.
15. About how many times per week do you dress as Lolita?
Almost never. I'm trying to get better at this.
16. Please tell us about one embarrassing episode from the time when you were
just beginning Lolita.
Ugh... so many. Mostly I just thought I was more experienced than I was.
17. What's hairstyle and color that you think Lolita would suite the most?
I think anything is fine, as long as your hair looks nice, particularly if it looks "decorated" with a headband or clips or something.
18. Have you ever thought of stopping Lolita? The reason?
Yeah, every once in a while. Honestly, I thought the long break I just came out of was the end of my Lolita career. I don't know that I'd ever be able to fully escape it.....
19. Please tell us your heart's bible as a Lolita. (anything like a book, magazine, CD, idol...)
Something that really inspires me to be a good lolita? Caro-chan's F Yeah Lolita blog. I just love the way she breaks everything down and makes the style seem more accessible.
20. Do you own a doll? Tell us your feelings about her intensely!
No I don't.
21. What kind of make-up do you wear when you wear Lolita clothes?
My usual 'old hollywood' look- copper eyeshadow, black winged eyeliner on the top lid only, mascara, orangey blush, reddish lipstick (or if I'm feeling more gothic, purple lipstick.)
22. Have you ever secretly changed clothes in a train station bathroom on Lolita day-out?
Nope.
23. Are you composed when doing Lolita all by yourself?
No. I really wish I had a friend who would wear lolita out with me (my friend I mentioned earlier is only allowed to wear lolita as a costume or to parties at our anime club, sadly.)
24. How much do you spend in your Lolita clothes& accessary monthly?
Not a lot, especially considering a) I don't buy brand and b) I haven't bought anything lolita-related in months.
25. What is the most expensive Lolita thing you've bought so far? How much was it?
The most expensive thing I own is a $60 offbrand JSK (okay, it's a sundress,) that I got as a gift. The most expensive thing I've purchased with my own money? Probably my black boots, which really aren't solely lolita anyway, but they were $50.
26. So far about how much has the expense been for Lolita goods?
I don't know. I'm pretty sure it's under $100, surprisingly.
27. Lolita outfit really costs money. How do you raise money to cover the cost of
Lolita?
I haven't bought or considered buying anything wallet-starvingly expensive yet.....
28. Have you ever bought from an online store? If so, please tell us its good
and bad points and some advice for the future. If not, please tell us why not.
Not yet! I'm thinking about it soon.
29. Even if you sort of want to keep it a secret, please clandestinely tell us
about a private manufacturer that is the best.
What?.....
30. Is there a brand and/or an item that you think, "I could never get it! But I unreasonably want it!"?
Not really.
31. What do you think about people who only do Lolita at music-lives or cosplay?
In the past, I would've jumped to say, "they're not real lolitas!" But now I know that sometimes it's more complicated than that. I'm sure my friend (and other people like her) would love to wear lolita outside of parties and cosplay, but her parents won't let her. It has nothing to do with 'how much of a lolita' she is.
32. From what age to what age is it acceptable to do Lolita? Do you think that there's a state in which someone must graduate from Lolita? (you can answer as ‘never graduate’)
This is a tough one. I'll leave it at this: I don't think you have to give up lolita ever if it's what you really love, but you need to let it grow and change with you. I think there's a point at which you just know what is and isn't working for you anymore.
33. Is there a Lolita fashion or behavior that you think "I don't want Lolitas to do this!" about?
Anything that seems really fetish-y or sexualized. I don't want people to get the wrong impression about lolita, since it's hard enough to defend it as a legitimate fashion as it is.
34. Is there something you think "Lolita has to be this way!" about?
Not really.
35. While doing Lolita, has something changed from earlier than you did Lolita?
Oh, soooo much.
36. Do you go to school/work as Lolita?
I'm homeschooled and unemployed ;A;
37. Do you wear Lolita clothes as casual wear?
No.
38. Do you have a boyfriend (or husband)? Do you understand each other? (I think she meant “Does he understand you (as lolita)?”)
Nope. I'm single and NOT looking for anyone, thanks!
39. What do the people around you think of your doing Lolita? Do they accept it?
I'm.... not quite sure. My sister seems cool with it, and even 'dresses fancy' with me when I wear lolita. My mom is pretty accepting of everything, but she's shown signs of having variable levels of distaste for lolita, mostly because of the name I think. My dad doesn't even care at all. I think I could walk out in a banana suit and he wouldn't raise an eyebrow.
40. What kind of Lolita is who has impressed you the most up until now?
Again, Caro-chan really inspires me.
41. Have you ever made your own Lolita clothing or/and accessories? If so, what was the best item that you’ve made?
Yes! I made one dress. It's really pretty, but it doesn't fit me. I've made a lot of small accessories, too.
42. If you have an ideal Lolita outfit or coordination, please tell us.
Anything with my mint-green JSK!
43. Is there a motif that you think “this is a simple of Lolita”?
What did I just read?
44. Would you want to dress your children as Lolita?
No, I think that would be kind of weird. If my kids (which I do not want anyway) wanted to wear it, though, I wouldn't care.
45. What's your image of the ideal Lolita?
That is very complicated. I'm not quite sure yet.

45 questions! [18 Sep 2011|08:39pm]

suitetwentytwo
1. Please tell us your Hand Name (name that’s used ONLY in internet.) and hometown.
Suitetwentytwo. And I don't give out the secret location of my base of operations. Gotta keep my secret identity a secret. (shhhhh)

2. About how long is your history as a Lolita?
I've been dressing in Lolita for a year, but I was interested in it for a year before that.

3. What first motivated you to do Lolita fashion?
I liked it and really wanted to wear it. That simple.

4. After knowing Lolita fashion, have you had any time-gap or resistance till you actually started to be Lolita?
Like I said. I knew about it for a year before every wearing it. I don't wear it very often right now, because my wardrobe is small.

5. Please define your Lolita style as much as possible. (eg. gothic Lolita, sweet Lolita, white Lolita…. Etc).
Um...anything I happen to like. I probably will never wear a sweet or classic coord because they don't suit me, but I love bending the rules and mixing styles. I'm a loli rulebreaker. And I really love punk.

6. About how many Lolita friends do you have?
A handful from my local comm.

7. What is the best thing about doing Lolita?
It's fun!

8. Conversely, what's the worst thing?
hmmm, probably the attention it can draw you. But I haven't had any negative attention yet, which is good.

9. Which Lolita Brands do you like?
I'm more of a 'I like this print,' 'I hate this print' kind of person, so I like and hate prints from all the brands.

10. What was the first Lolita item that you’ve owned?
A red and black skirt I recieved as a birthday present from the first Lolita I ever met in real life. She's still my friend too!

11. What is the “must have!” Lolita item?
Whatever I like at the moment.

12. Do you wear drawers?
No, but only because I don't currently own any.

13. Do you have any favourite Japanese music?
I'm more a K-Pop girl, but I do love Utada Hikaru.

14. Where do you particularly visit as Lolita?
Meetups mostly. I don't have the courage to wear it on my own very often.

15. About how many times per week do you dress as Lolita?
Not a lot. Like I said, I wear lolita mostly to meetups.

16. Please tell us about one embarrassing episode from the time when you were
just beginning Lolita.
hmmm. I have so many embarrassing moments in general I can't really think of any. I've been very fortunate to meet some lovely loli's who've helped me stear clear of any major mistakes. I haven't really had any ita days.

Edit: That's a lie. I thought of something. I haven't ever dressed ita, but I made a rather embarrassing post on egl back in the day. I found a site that sells 'loli' dresses and saw one I really liked (I still think it was pretty.) So I made an egl post about it asking what people thought. I made the mistake of not looking around the site a bit more beforehand, or I would have realized that the majority of the dresses were very ita and not so Lolita. Needless to say, the responses to my post were...interesting. (I thought of another embarrassing moment, but I've already forgotten it again. Lucky me.)

17. What's hairstyle and color that you think Lolita would suite the most?
All of them?

18. Have you ever thought of stopping Lolita? The reason?
Occasionally because I don't have much money, but I always convince myself not to.

19. Please tell us your heart's bible as a Lolita. (anything like a book, magazine, CD, idol...)
I don't really have one.

20. Do you own a doll? Tell us your feelings about her intensely!
No. I kind of find pullips and bjd's creepy. No offense.

21. What kind of make-up do you wear when you wear Lolita clothes?
Nothing unusual. I don't wear a lot of makeup normally. I hope to get better with my makeup though.

22. Have you ever secretly changed clothes in a train station bathroom on Lolita day-out?
No, but I've done things like that out of Lolita, so I'm sure I will in Lolita eventually.

23. Are you composed when doing Lolita all by yourself?
Like I said, I don't really have the confidence to wear it out by myself yet.

24. How much do you spend in your Lolita clothes& accessary monthly?
I don't buy a lot of Lolita things. Don't have the money right now.

25. What is the most expensive Lolita thing you've bought so far? How much was it?
Probably one of the english GLB's. I've made some of my Lolita and then found most everything else off-brand. And then I have a few things I recieved as gifts. So i haven't spent too much on the actual clothes.

26. So far about how much has the expense been for Lolita goods?
Very little.

27. Lolita outfit really costs money. How do you raise money to cover the cost of
Lolita?
I have a job, but I also look in mainstream stores and thrift shops, etc. for loliable things. My wardrobe is very limited right now.

and bad points and some advice for the future. If not, please tell us why not.

about a private manufacturer that is the best.

It doesn't bother me.

32. From what age to what age is it acceptable to do Lolita? Do you think that there's a state in which someone must graduate from
Lolita? (you can answer as ‘never graduate’)
I think it's different for each person.

33. Is there a Lolita fashion or behavior that you think "I don't want Lolitas to do this!" about?
Yeah, but I can't really control that, so I try not to worry about it.

34. Is there something you think "Lolita has to be this way!" about?
No. Other then creating the proper silhouette.

35. While doing Lolita, has something changed from earlier than you did Lolita?
um...what?

36. Do you go to school/work as Lolita?
No.

37. Do you wear Lolita clothes as casual wear?
Not yet.

38. Do you have a boyfriend (or husband)? Do you understand each other? (I think she meant “Does he understand you (as lolita)?”)
I'm single.

39. What do the people around you think of your doing Lolita? Do they accept it?
Most people are either ambivelant, think it's cool, or are already Lolita. My father really loves it actually, which I did not expect. (He's a redneck, hunter, country boy.)

40. What kind of Lolita is who has impressed you the most up until now?
The Lolita's in my local comm. They are all so lovely and great!

41. Have you ever made your own Lolita clothing or/and accessories? If so, what was the best item that you’ve made?
Yes. I've made a blouse, skirt, sleeveless tail coat (that needs to be redone), mini top hat, and some little accessories. I'm pretty proud of all of them, since I hate major sewing projects and feel these all turned out well.

42. If you have an ideal Lolita outfit or coordination, please tell us.
I have lots of coordinate ideas, so no, I don't have an ideal.

43. Is there a motif that you think “this is a simple of Lolita”?
No.

44. Would you want to dress your children as Lolita?
If they want.

45. What's your image of the ideal Lolita?
I don't have one. A human being maybe?

My 45q! [14 Sep 2011|11:04pm]

bluscoutmama
1. Please tell us your Hand Name (name that’s used ONLY in internet.) and hometown.
ShibaAyame, but more recently, BLUScoutMama, and I'm from the gerater Philadelphia area.

2. About how long is your history as a Lolita?
Five years, maybe a little longer. I focused on casual and lolifying outfits in high school before graduating and starting to buy "real" loli.

3. What first motivated you to do Lolita fashion?
I'm an avid congoer, so the first time I saw a loli at a convention, I fell in love. It combined everything I loved about historical fashion without the impracticalities of modern life (for the most part).

4. After knowing Lolita fashion, have you had any time-gap or resistance till you actually started to be Lolita?
I did, the five or so years before ordering my first piece. I just started buying my loli this month, actually.

5. Please define your Lolita style as much as possible. (eg. gothic Lolita, sweet Lolita, white Lolita…. Etc).
Classic for the most part, casual when necessary, and sweet sometimes.

6. About how many Lolita friends do you have?
Two or three that I know in person so far, but I've joined a local comm and plan on getting to a meetup sometime soon.

7. What is the best thing about doing Lolita?
The way I can feel feminine and timeless and be different. It's a welcome change to the gothic I used to wear, and I won't be dropping loli anytime soon.

8. Conversely, what's the worst thing?
Lack of budget. I don't want to have to spend all of my graduation money on loli to get a workable wardrobe, but there's a few staples I need that I can't make on my own, namely shoes.

9. Which Lolita Brands do you like?
Mary Magdalene, Innocent World, and Juliette et Justine, with Angelic Pretty as my favorite sweet. (Although, my budget prefers Bodyline!)

10. What was the first Lolita item that you’ve owned?
A semi-handmade JSK from when I was a HS freshman. It was a maternity dress my mother wore but never got rid of, so I shortened it and gave it waist ties... it was only last night that I finally added a ruffle to the hem.
My first "brand" isn't even brand... it's a replica. Sugary Carnival in lavender from DoL. I love it so <3

11. What is the “must have!” Lolita item?
A good petticoat. So many newcomers try to go with no petti or a terribly deflated one, or one that's the wrong shape, or constant peek-a-petti... I still don't have my idea petticoat, but a rehabbed storebought one has to do for now.

12. Do you wear drawers?
Absolutely. My family's done civil war reenacting for years, so I just took a pair I already had, shortened them, and added lace. They're so comfortable!

13. Do you have any favourite Japanese music?
Anime soundtracks, mostly. Background music. Gundam Wing and Ouran Host Club have the best soundtracks in my opinion. That counts, right?

14. Where do you particularly visit as Lolita?
The park or conventions, or a local tea room. My fiance coords with me, so whenever we're out we always get a picture together.

15. About how many times per week do you dress as Lolita?
Right now, one maybe. I've got two workable JSKs, and a couple of skirts, but I do want to get up to semi-full time.

16. Please tell us about one embarrassing episode from the time when you were just beginning Lolita.
I took a wristcuff I found once, pinned back the snap attachment, and wore it on my head as a band headdress... for a school orchestra concert in eighth grade, when I had a solo. Terrible, terrible noob.

17. What's hairstyle and color that you think Lolita would suit the most?
Natural colors, in classic styles like buns, curls, braids, or straight.

18. Have you ever thought of stopping Lolita? The reason?
Yes, because of my lack of funds. But then I remember how my fiance loves it, and I can't say no to him <3

19. Please tell us your heart's bible as a Lolita. (anything like a book, magazine, CD, idol...)
Jane Austen novels, and other historical romance novels.

20. Do you own a doll? Tell us your feelings about her intensely!
I don't own a doll, though I wish I did. But then I remember a BJD would obliterate my budget even further!

21. What kind of make-up do you wear when you wear Lolita clothes?
Cream foundation, powder, eyeshadow, NO blush, eye shadow, mascara, lipstick in a neutral if my hair's down or gloss if it's up.

22. Have you ever secretly changed clothes in a train station bathroom on Lolita day-out?
No, but I have for cosplay before.

23. Are you composed when doing Lolita all by yourself?
Yes, because I've always been stared at odd for whatever I'm wearing. It's just that my style has matured from crappy secondhand goth to refined secondhand loli.

24. How much do you spend in your Lolita clothes& accessary monthly?
Not much, considering it's mostly selfmade right now. Although I just dropped $85 on my SC replica, and $30 on a blouse, and I need new white shoes...

25. What is the most expensive Lolita thing you've bought so far? How much was it?
My SC replica. But it was so worth it <3

26. So far about how much has the expense been for Lolita goods?
$115, so far.

27. Lolita outfit really costs money. How do you raise money to cover the cost of Lolita?
Babysitting until I can get a "real" job. Stupid economy...

28. Have you ever bought from an online store? If so, please tell us its good and bad points and some advice for the future. If not, please tell us why not.
I've never bought online, unless you count the sales_comm.

29. Even if you sort of want to keep it a secret, please clandestinely tell us about a private manufacturer that is the best.
I looooooooooooove Classical Puppets, if that counts. I'm gonna save up for one of their pettis.

30. Is there a brand and/or an item that you think, "I could never get it! But I unreasonably want it!"?
Juliette et Justine! Their stuff is so beautiful, but it's almost always longer length, and I'm short so it doesn't work out so well. That, and talk about a budget buster!

31. What do you think about people who only do Lolita at music-lives or cosplay?
There's nothing wrong with it. As long as they figure out that heels at concerts is never a good idea and realize that cosplay lolita isn't lolita (and try to wear it for non-cosplay events!) then I'm not bothered.

32. From what age to what age is it acceptable to do Lolita? Do you think that there's a state in which someone must graduate from Lolita? (you can answer as ‘never graduate’)
There is no cap on age! But I think lolis should be high schoolers at minimum, honestly. Because they have to understand that you need to work hard for your brand later in life instead of asking mommy and daddy to buy it for you.

33. Is there a Lolita fashion or behavior that you think "I don't want Lolitas to do this!" about?
CROCS. Seriously, get out. You shouldn't be gardening in loli anyway.

34. Is there something you think "Lolita has to be this way!" about?
The silhouette. If you don't have some poof, then it's just a ho-hum frilly dress.

35. While doing Lolita, has something changed from earlier than you did Lolita?
I've gotten a little more confident. And my fiance loves seeing me cute-ified, and we're ordinarily saccharine, so it just amplifies our cute-love together... if that makes sense.

36. Do you go to school/work as Lolita?
School, yes. Lack of job dictates a "no".

37. Do you wear Lolita clothes as casual wear?
It depends on the occasion.

38. Do you have a boyfriend (or husband)? Do you understand each other?
Absolutely 100% yes. I'm very lucky to say so.

39. What do the people around you think of your doing Lolita? Do they accept it?
My parents love it because it's strange but modest. My fiance loves it because he loves cute things anyway. I'm pretty sure my facebook friends are tired of seeing my loli-spam on their news feeds though!

40. What kind of Lolita is who has impressed you the most up until now?
OTT Sweet. I could never drop that much money on deco shenanigans.

41. Have you ever made your own Lolita clothing or/and accessories? If so, what was the best item that you’ve made?
Most of my wardrobe is selfmade! I think the best item I've made was a complete resize of (shudder) Bella's birthday dress from New Moon. I had to buy it three sizes too big because I wanted it that badly, so I detatched the skirt from the bodice, regathered it shorter, put darts in the bodice and raised the straps. It's a beautiful dress!

42. If you have an ideal Lolita outfit or coordination, please tell us.
A classic coord of a wine dress with black details (buttons and lace), cream blouse and tights, and a pair of black mary janes... and curled hair.

43. Is there a motif that you think “this is a simple of Lolita”?
I don't know what this question means o.o do you mean to ask if there's a motif that makes me think of loli? I think it'd have to be ruffled lace, I've always been a sucker for ruffled lace.

44. Would you want to dress your children as Lolita?
Nope. Although, I do reserve the right to dress them in sailor-themed outfits or coordinate their special occasion dresses/suits to match me!

45. What's your image of the ideal Lolita?
One who doesn't forget that her most essential accessory is her smile. It's cheesy, but I really think that if you're not smiling, you're underdressd!

My 45~ [11 Aug 2011|11:15pm]

monchdroof
 1. Please tell us your Hand Name (name that’s used ONLY in internet.) and hometown.
monchdroof, or Fling. Im from Oklahoma City!

2. About how long is your history as a Lolita?
Oh, since I was young, I guess? My sister really loved it and showed it to me, but I didnt get into it until I was about 18 I think.

3. What first motivated you to do Lolita fashion?
My best friend and forever fashion inspiration!

4. After knowing Lolita fashion, have you had any time-gap or resistance till you actually started to be Lolita?
No resistance, but I waited until I moved out until I started wearing it all the time.

5. Please define your Lolita style as much as possible. (eg. gothic Lolita, sweet Lolita, white Lolita…. Etc).
Uhm, casual, sweet and classic I think? I dont really have anything OTT in any style! I guess Im not very bold!

6. About how many Lolita friends do you have?
Uh, mostly the amazing ladies I meet up with, so... I cant remember everyone! A lot, though, Im really lucky!

7. What is the best thing about doing Lolita?
All the amazing clothes you get to wear! But really, it sounds silly, but its the feeling of wearing it. When you put on your outfit, you feel invincible! ...At least, I do.

8. Conversely, what's the worst thing?
Definitely the heat. I am a bit dainty anyway, so getting dirty has never been much of an issue, but no one can help sweating. Here in Oklahoma there is like a 3 month gap where I cant wear lolita at all, Im in shorts and tanks because of the heat... Yikes!

9. Which Lolita Brands do you like?
Metamorphose is becoming my absolute favorite. I used to love Baby the Stars Shine Bright (gosh, I still do!) but everything Meta puts out is so fresh and cute! I also really like Innocent World, Mary Magdelene, and love pretty much everything Emily Temple Cute puts out. (I also secretly love Liz Lisa and MARS, but thats not lolita related!)

10. What was the first Lolita item that you’ve owned?
A handmade OP, underskirt, petti and blouse I made. ^^; It wasnt the most horrible, but it wasnt the best either. My first brand piece was a BTSSB jsk I later traded. I still really like it, though.

11. What is the “must have!” Lolita item?
For me, its gotta be the skirt! It seems like such a staple item, but without the right shape, something goes from 'lolita' to just 'cute'!

12. Do you wear drawers?
Yup! I have several. Medium white ones my friend made me for normal wear, short Meta bloomers for hot days, and long flannel bloomers my friend made for cold weather! They look so cute, I love wearing them!

13. Do you have any favourite Japanese music?
I dont really listen to Japanese music. Sorry! But if I had to choose I really like The Pillows!

14. Where do you particularly visit as Lolita?
No where in particular, I usually like to go out and have lunch at a cute cafe, but there are a lot less of those in the city (as opposed to the little town I used to live in), so I usually just wear it to hang out with my friends. I would feel silly going grocery shopping in lolita ^^;

15. About how many times per week do you dress as Lolita?
I used to do it every day! ... But right now it happens to be that time of the year, so I actually havent worn lolita in a long time. I usually wear it at least 4-5 times a week.

16. Please tell us about one embarrassing episode from the time when you were
just beginning Lolita.
I was at a con, in a very badly coordinated outfit... Bad hair, very little make-up, and even though my outfit was brand, it was really short on me... And one of my lolita idols approached me and told me how much she loved poodles, and how cute I was! She was so nice, but I was totally humiliated! I wish my outfit had been better when I first met her!

17. What's hairstyle and color that you think Lolita would suite the most?
I really like ashy-blond with lolita is cute, with bangs and pigtails! Brown looks great braided, and red looks cute short, while black hair looks cute long and straight! Any style/color looks great, though!

18. Have you ever thought of stopping Lolita? The reason?
A few times... My boyfriend at the time was really degrading, so it was hard to wear it around him while constantly being berated. Im so happy Im out of that situation now! Other times Ive just been insecure. But Ive always come back, I love the fashion!

19. Please tell us your heart's bible as a Lolita. (anything like a book, magazine, CD, idol...)
Wizard of Oz! I love that story!

20. Do you own a doll? Tell us your feelings about her intensely!
I dont, Im sorry! My doll is my dog, my adorable Athena! Shes a little welsh corgi, who has too much energy to keep up with. I wouldnt call her a doll at all, she wouldnt stand to be dressed up!

21. What kind of make-up do you wear when you wear Lolita clothes?
Concealer, foundation, blush, eyeshadow, eyeliner, mascara, false eyelashes, lip stick or colored gloss, and I just got circle lenses! Pretty tame compared to some!

22. Have you ever secretly changed clothes in a train station bathroom on Lolita day-out?
Ive changed in my car before (haha)... I think I was seeing some friends later that hadnt seen me in lolita, and I was going to ease them into it...

23. Are you composed when doing Lolita all by yourself?
Absolutely! Wearing lolita by myself, as silly and naive as it sounds, makes me feel really graceful. I know I just look silly, but wearing lolita alone makes it feel almost more like an outfit then just crazy clothes Im wearing with my friends. (Of course, its more fun with friends!)

24. How much do you spend in your Lolita clothes& accessary monthly?
I buy myself something every month (just one thing a month!) so it varies every month. It could be under 20, or it could be 200 depending on my funds and what I want!

25. What is the most expensive Lolita thing you've bought so far? How much was it?
Wonder Party... It was more than my rent... I think it was 350. I see now I was ripped off... (sigh)

26. So far about how much has the expense been for Lolita goods?
Id rather not think about it!

27. Lolita outfit really costs money. How do you raise money to cover the cost of
Lolita?
I work really hard! Im planning on working two jobs so I can afford a great lifestyle and lolita!

28. Have you ever bought from an online store? If so, please tell us its good
and bad points and some advice for the future. If not, please tell us why not.
Ive bought from Baby and Meta. I got lucky packs! There wasnt much communication, but everything went very smoothly. No complaints! Just do research before you try to buy!

29. Even if you sort of want to keep it a secret, please clandestinely tell us
about a private manufacturer that is the best.
A lot of the sellers on the egl-comm-sales are actually very talented!

30. Is there a brand and/or an item that you think, "I could never get it! But I unreasonably want it!"?
Sugary Carnival... I hate it! But I want it! I would never wear it! But I wish I could try it on!

31. What do you think about people who only do Lolita at music-lives or cosplay?
Nothing wrong with that... Its a little strange to me, but to a lot of people lolita really does look like a costume, so I can see why they would only wear it at those kinds of events.

32. From what age to what age is it acceptable to do Lolita? Do you think that there's a state in which someone must graduate from
Lolita? (you can answer as ‘never graduate’)
I think a lolita should be at least 16 or 17... There are exceptions... And you can never graduate! I just feel like someone a little older would know the value of the clothing a little better than someone who just gets the clothes because they want them. Buying them with money earned feels great! ...But I suppose there are always people who would disagree.

33. Is there a Lolita fashion or behavior that you think "I don't want Lolitas to do this!" about?
Ive always hated them... One-sleeved shirts! They drive me crazy! They wouldnt fit the lolita aesthetic at all!

34. Is there something you think "Lolita has to be this way!" about?
Pretty. It doesnt matter how, whether you are princess pretty, punk pretty, classic pretty, cute pretty... Thats what its about.

35. While doing Lolita, has something changed from earlier than you did Lolita?
I think Ive become a lot more fashion conscience! (Or maybe just a fashion victim?)

36. Do you go to school/work as Lolita?
I cant go to work in lolita (I used to!) and currently my college classes are only offered online, but I suppose I do!

37. Do you wear Lolita clothes as casual wear?
Yup! I prefer them over normal clothing.

38. Do you have a boyfriend (or husband)? Do you understand each other? (I think she meant “Does he understand you (as lolita)?”)
I have a fiance, and he doesnt totally understand it, but he is very supportive and loves to see me in it :)

39. What do the people around you think of your doing Lolita? Do they accept it?
My friends equate it to their Magic: The Gathering obsession (somehow), and my family thinks its cute.

Here you go. I answered them all. [05 Jun 2011|07:26pm]

missfaerytale
1. Please tell us your Hand Name (name that’s used ONLY in internet.) and hometown.
a) MissFaerytale // b) Southern Illinois. I won't bother telling you WHERE EXACTLY because you won't know where it is, anyways.
2. About how long is your history as a Lolita?
Pssh. Not even a year. I bought my first dress in November 2010 made my first Lolita skirt in December 2010.
3. What first motivated you to do Lolita fashion?
I read a book called Japanese Schoolgirl Inferno by Patrick Macias and Izumi Evers. There was a giant section in there about Lolita. I finally realized I was not happy simply trying to copy the goths or wearing witty-talking-food shirts.
4. After knowing Lolita fashion, have you had any time-gap or resistance till you actually started to be Lolita?
Yush. After I read about it, I was afraid to ask my mom about it because the first time I brought it up she automatically associated it with the book by Vladimir Nabokov and asked me a ton of questions about it.
5. Please define your Lolita style as much as possible. (eg. gothic Lolita, sweet Lolita, white Lolita…. Etc).
Oh, gawrsh. I don't know. I'm still pretty new, so I don't really have a style. At the beginning, I was sort of classic-ish. Now, I'm leaning more toward sweet.
6. About how many Lolita friends do you have?
Zero. I am the population of the Washington County, Illinois Lolitas.
7. What is the best thing about doing Lolita?
It makes me feel pretty and gives me confidence. Too bad my momma doesn't believe me.
8. Conversely, what's the worst thing?
Brand is so darn expensive! Also, I am utterly disproportional.
9. Which Lolita Brands do you like?
Hm. I've never bought brand, but I like Angelic Pretty. I also like Meta's non-"WTF?!" items and BTSSB.
10. What was the first Lolita item that you’ve owned?
A dress from Rakuen Fashion, an American Lolita store.
11. What is the “must have!” Lolita item?
You can't just choose one! There are so many! Pettis, tights/socks, a headpiece of some sort...
12. Do you wear drawers?
No.
13. Do you have any favourite Japanese music?
LM.C, The Gazette, and Abingdon Boys School. Attractive vocalists, good music.
14. Where do you particularly visit as Lolita?
I wore my skirt once to the movies. Other than that, nowhere. I lack season-appropriate clothing.
15. About how many times per week do you dress as Lolita?
Hardly. I'm new and I don't have that many clothes.
16. Please tell us about one embarrassing episode from the time when you were
just beginning Lolita.
Well... when I wore my Rakuen dress to a convention, the chest area and and the sleeves were too big, and being the noob I am, I didn't have a blouse or something to go under it. I kept having to pull up the sleeves so my bra straps didn't show.
17. What's hairstyle and color that you think Lolita would suite the most?
Long straight hair with nice fringe, or curly pigtails, also with nice fringe.
18. Have you ever thought of stopping Lolita? The reason?
No. I just started.
19. Please tell us your heart's bible as a Lolita. (anything like a book, magazine, CD, idol...)
LolitaFashion.org
20. Do you own a doll? Tell us your feelings about her intensely!
I wish! I mean, don't own a Lolita-style doll, but I own 3 1940s/original Barbie-inspired dolls. The one with brown curly hair is named Jill, and personally, I believe she looks best in the purple dress with the pencil skirt. The one with long, wavy red hair I haven't named, but she looks prettiest in the dress she came in - a long, flowy, green and gold thing. The one with curly white hair is my favorite! Her name is Gwen. She looks prettiest in, like, any of the outfits I put her in. Oh, listen to me. You got me sounding like a six-year-old!
21. What kind of make-up do you wear when you wear Lolita clothes?
Foundation, black mascara, black eyeliner, white eyeliner, 2 shades of bronze-ish eyeshadow.
22. Have you ever secretly changed clothes in a train station bathroom on Lolita day-out?
No.
23. Are you composed when doing Lolita all by yourself?
Yes.
24. How much do you spend in your Lolita clothes& accessary monthly?
I don't buy often. If I do, I always look for deals. What can I say? I'm cheap. Mostly I make my own clothes.
25. What is the most expensive Lolita thing you've bought so far? How much was it?
My Rakuen dress. $135.
26. So far about how much has the expense been for Lolita goods?
Not counting the fabric my mother so graciously buys me, it's probably about... 170-some dollars?
27. Lolita outfit really costs money. How do you raise money to cover the cost of
Lolita?
Saving my allowance, making sure my senile grandfather doesn't leave the house, buying second-hand or from stores like Bodyline, Anna House, or Qutieland.
28. Have you ever bought from an online store? If so, please tell us its good
and bad points and some advice for the future. If not, please tell us why not.
Rakuen Fashion is the only online store I've ever bought from. It's based in Washington State, and it took about a few weeks for the dress to arrive, but the it was suberbly sewn and it arrived on my doorstep in excellent condition.
29. Even if you sort of want to keep it a secret, please clandestinely tell us
about a private manufacturer that is the best.
Sorry, I'm not that experienced.
30. Is there a brand and/or an item that you think, "I could never get it! But I unreasonably want it!"?
Any brand dress I am attracted to. I lust like mad for it, but the prices! I fear it shall never be...
31. What do you think about people who only do Lolita at music-lives or cosplay?
I don't care, really. But if they are wearing it, they shouldn't integrate it in with any cosplay stuff.
32. From what age to what age is it acceptable to do Lolita? Do you think that there's a state in which someone must graduate from
Lolita? (you can answer as ‘never graduate’)
I think if you are under 13, then you are probably too young. I think if you are over 40, it's time you started wearing normal people clothes. Although, I do know of some older women on LolitaFashion.org who wear Lolita. I guess you really have to have some self-confidence if you are over 40 and wearing Lolita. Even then, I don't think it would be appropriate to wear sweet. Maybe something more mature, like Classic.
33. Is there a Lolita fashion or behavior that you think "I don't want Lolitas to do this!" about?
Don't go being all vulgar and start behaving recklessly when you're wearing Lolita in public. For one thing, it's bad social behaviour, not to mention incredibly rude to the people around you, and two, it gives Lolitas a bad name. A normal person may not know your wearing Lolita, but they may see someone else who is wearing it on a separate occasion, think back to your bad behaviour and say to themselves, "Oh, the girl then was wearing similar clothes to that girl over there. They must behave similarly, as well."
34. Is there something you think "Lolita has to be this way!" about?
Pretty and composed.
35. While doing Lolita, has something changed from earlier than you did Lolita?
I have more confidence. I feel like a different person. I feel pretty.
36. Do you go to school/work as Lolita?
Sadly, no.
37. Do you wear Lolita clothes as casual wear?
Once. When I went to the movies.
38. Do you have a boyfriend (or husband)? Do you understand each other? (I think she meant “Does he understand you (as lolita)?”)
I don't have a boyfriend, but there is someone I like. He likes me back, but we agreed we wouldn't start dating until the school year began. So he's never seen me wear Lolita.
39. What do the people around you think of your doing Lolita? Do they accept it?
Yes, my friends who have seen me in Lolita and my anime-loving friends accept it. My female friends think it's pretty cool. My parents accept it, too. My mom is excited that I sew my own clothes.
40. What kind of Lolita is who has impressed you the most up until now?
Brolitas. I've only met two, and both encounters were fairly brief. The first Brolita I met took my picture at a con (even though I wasn't wearing Lolita!), and that was the extent of it. The next Brolita, on a separate occasion, complimented my dress and we had a short discussion about brands. Both times, the guys were very polite and friendly. I also admire Brolitas. I can only imagine the copious amounts of confidence it takes for them to walk around in frilly girl clothes.
41. Have you ever made your own Lolita clothing or/and accessories? If so, what was the best item that you’ve made?
Yes. I made a dark red skirt with a black ribbon going around the hem and a little black bow attached to the ribbon. It's my only homemade piece so far.
42. If you have an ideal Lolita outfit or coordination, please tell us.
A yellow, cupcake-print dress with a matching head bow, a white blouse, pink shoes, and white knee socks.
43. Is there a motif that you think “this is a simple of Lolita”?
I think I know what you mean, and I would say... cake. Or something. Cookies. Tea. Any of those.
44. Would you want to dress your children as Lolita?
I'm too young to have kids!
45. What's your image of the ideal Lolita?
Someone who not only enjoys wearing Lolita, but someone who can wear it in public confidently, and who knows how to wear it well.

1. Please tell us your Hand Name (name that’s used ONLY in internet.) and hometown.

Most people call my Steph or Faye (but the first one is actually only used by people I also meet in real life a lot). I live in a small town near to Munich, Germany.

2. About how long is your history as a Lolita?

I became interested in the fashion 4 years ago, and I wear it since the first AnCafé-concert in Munich (which was in 2008?).

3. What first motivated you to do Lolita fashion?

I don’t know. I was actually more into Visual Kei, but the girly character of Lolita matched my Style way more, so I got motivated by this, I guess. Or, to put it simply: VK just didn’t suit me XD But Lolita luckily does <3

4. After knowing Lolita fashion, have you had any time-gap or resistance till you actually started to be Lolita?

Oh yeah, the time when I was a bit into emo- and later skater-fashion XDDDD terrible fail-time, I tell you! Luckily there don’t exist any pictures of this LOL

5. Please define your Lolita style as much as possible. (eg. gothic Lolita, sweet Lolita, white Lolita…. Etc).

I like simple colours/pattern/prints, so I’m mainly wearing Gothic, Classic, Sweet (but with dark colours and not so much Accessoires) but lately I like Punk & Sailor a lot! (I still didn’t wear it, though)

6. About how many Lolita friends do you have?

I have a little “circle” of friends I meet at our local meet-ups. My closest Lolita-friends are also the co-admins for the meetings we organize ^_^ we also meet up apart from the events^^

7. What is the best thing about doing Lolita?

This is difficult! I guess the best thing is that, though you’re standing out of the mass, there are a lot of people you can identify yourself with. And for me it’s also a pretty good thing that I can live my girly side. Because when I’m not wearing Lolita, I’m not as girly as I am while being Lolita XD It helps me a lot to be more female, to be more myself.

8. Conversely, what's the worst thing?

People thinking that I’m not in my right mind. The way you dress has nothing to do with your mental health.

9. Which Lolita Brands do you like?

Baby the stars shine bright (though it’s sometimes more hate-love), Metamorphose temps de fille, Mary Magdalane & Innocent World.

10. What was the first Lolita item that you’ve owned?

Tough one. I guess it’s a set I sew together with my granny. But unfortunately, it doesn’t fit me anymore D: It’s too short, but I can’t sell it either!

11. What is the “must have!” Lolita item?

Petticoat & Headbow, I guess.

12. Do you wear drawers?

Yeah, esp. when it’s cold outside.

13. Do you have any favorite Japanese music?

I’m mainly into JPop (my biggest passion is Johnny’s Entertainment :D), but I like a few rori-like musicians such as Kokusyoku Sumire or Wakeshima Kanon.

14. Where do you particularly visit as Lolita?

Shopping and on our meet-ups (the locations are mainly castles)

15. About how many times per week do you dress as Lolita?

4 days a week, depends how the weather or my mood is. I often wear it in my free time (not completely styled then)

16. Please tell us about one embarrassing episode from the time when you were just beginning Lolita.

I guess it was a typical ita-outfit with too much lace, no petticoat and bad make-up. XD
Ah, once I tried to mix Lolita & Decora. I think I don’t have to mention that I terribly failed, right? XD

17. What's hairstyle and color that you think Lolita would suit the most?

Curls are always good, but a Bob or beautiful straight hair is also nice. I like natural colours, I’m not into those OTT-wigs.^^”

18. Have you ever thought of stopping Lolita? The reason?

Oh yeah, I actually did. Not on purpose, though XD It was just the time when I was very active in the JE-Fandom and didn’t have any money for Lolita left.

19. Please tell us your heart's bible as a Lolita. (anything like a book, magazine, CD, idol...)

GLB of course. I often read Kera, either. And ELLE ;P Sometimes, when I try to make my outfits more hime-like, I try to get inspired by Popteen. But I use this magazine mainly for my casual-outfits, when I’m at school or going out.

20. Do you own a doll? Tell us your feelings about her intensely!

Honestly: I’m too scared of dolls. BJDs are okay, but seriously, I cannot afford these while buying CDs/DVDs/Magazine and expensive clothes in Japan. XD

21. What kind of make-up do you wear when you wear Lolita clothes?

Important for me is that my skin looks natural. I like simple make-up, sometimes fake eye-lashes. I also love red lipstick.

22. Have you ever secretly changed clothes in a train station bathroom on Lolita day-out?

No. I go proud through public places. If I don’t want anyone to look, I can stay at home. Sometimes it’s a bit difficult in the small town where I live, though. But I mainly ignore the people there.

23. Are you composed when doing Lolita all by yourself?

Yeah.

24. How much do you spend in your Lolita clothes& accessory monthly?

Oh yeah. Now it’s getting difficult. I always have to decide (every month!) wether I buy something new from Johnny’s or new clothes. So if I buy sth for Lolita, it’s always between 50-150€

25. What is the most expensive Lolita thing you've bought so far? How much was it?

The Mothergoose JSK form baby the stars shine bright. 200€. MY BABY. <3

26. So far about how much has the expense been for Lolita goods?

Uff. I bought a lot 2nd Hand, then I’ve sewn many Items on my own… I guess meanwhile it’s been about 500 €, I guess. I don’t know exactly.

27. Lolita outfit really costs money. How do you raise money to cover the cost of Lolita?

I save it. It’s hard, because I really hate my part-time job, but I’m totally lucky when I finally have new items in my hands. <3

28. Have you ever bought from an online store? If so, please tell us its good and bad points and some advice for the future. If not, please tell us why not.

I mainly buy 2nd Hand (egl_comm_sales & dunkelsüß flohmarkt)
Ah, I once bought at Yesstyle! XD

29. Even if you sort of want to keep it a secret, please clandestinely tell us about a private manufacturer that is the best.

IchIgo-Betty, one of the co-admins sews really pretty stuff! But she does it only for herself ;P

30. Is there a brand and/or an item that you think, "I could never get it! But I unreasonably want it!"?

Baby’s Masquerade Theater. I’d kill for this dress. I swear.

31. What do you think about people who only do Lolita at music-lives or cosplay?

It’s the same with punks who do it only for concerts: as long as they don’t criticize how I do it and wear the fashion correctly, I don’t mind.

32. From what age to what age is it acceptable to do Lolita? Do you think that there's a state in which someone must graduate from Lolita?

Well, I wouldn’t recommend Lolita to a 65-year-old granny XD But I actually guess, Lolita is ageless. You just have to choose the right style.

33. Is there a Lolita fashion or behavior that you think "I don't want Lolitas to do this!" about?

Hm. Having sex in public isn’t really appropriate for Lolita. (XDDDDD)

34. Is there something you think "Lolita has to be this way!" about?

Girly, I guess. If it’s not Kodona. Or Aristocrat.

35. While doing Lolita, has something changed from earlier than you did Lolita?

I’ve become more interested (and advanced! XD) in fashion! And I’ve improved tolerating others. I’ve also become more self-confident, so… yeah, a lot has changed XD

36. Do you go to school/work as Lolita?

No. My clothes are too cool/expensive for school. 8D And I won’t go to work in Lolita, either, because I want to become a nurse XD

37. Do you wear Lolita clothes as casual wear?

Sometimes.^^

38. Do you have a boyfriend (or husband)? Do you understand each other?

No I don’t. But honestly, I don’t know if I could accept someone who doesn’t like my lifestyle. It’s not only about Lolita, it’s about fashion as a whole thing which defines my lifestyle.

39. What do the people around you think of your doing Lolita? Do they accept it?

My Family mainly likes it. Although my mother often complains about the money I spend. Some of my friends aren’t really interested in it. But most of my friends (they’re all kinda related to Japanese fandom) like it and support me. ^_~

40. What kind of Lolita is who has impressed you the most up until now?

Lolitas who have a difficult life (such as a child to raise or so) and have find the power, money, etc to wear it.

41. Have you ever made your own Lolita clothing or/and accessories? If so, what was the best item that you’ve made?

I used to sew my clothes, but I’ve been way too busy with school lately that I can’t do it anymore. ;_;

42. If you have an ideal Lolita outfit or coordination, please tell us.

The coordinate with my Musical Note JSK. I wore it together with a blazer from NewYorker.

43. Is there a motif that you think “this is a simple of Lolita”?

Lace! XD

44. Would you want to dress your children as Lolita?

If it suits them, why not? But I don’t want to force them X

45. What's your image of the ideal Lolita?

A girl who has fun wearing Lolita and doesn’t care about bitching & drama.
